We hadden een beetje waterschade doordat we op het strand sliepen..
Verslag 1 van Into The Wild!
Vannacht lekker geslapen op een parking!!
Gisteren waren er trials met niet normaal veel deelnemers.
Heats van 3 personen waarvan de winnaar direct naar het main event mocht, de tweede moest dan door naar de tweede ronde van de trials en zo 2x winnen en dan mocht die dan ook naar het main event.
Steve, Mowgli en Tijn mochten direct naar het main event.
Tijn, Johnno en Ian Curry(Belg) waren het eerst aan de beurt. Tijn had een super heat met veel cleane landingen. Vette Kiteloop KGB en veel meer. Johnno had ondanks pijn in z'n ribben een mindere heat en Ian had wat teveel kracht in z'n 12.
Steve had een super goeie heat die meer op een chillsessie leek omdat hij constant met een lach op het gezicht naar de toeschouwers keek.
Mowgli deed gewoon zijn ding in de verkeerde heat, maar hij mocht gelukkig zijn juiste heat nog varen. Heel moeilijk was het niet omdat er een tegenstander ontbrak en de andere dude probeerde tot 3maal toe een straight handlepass zonder succes. Maar al bij al heeft Zack(zo heet Tack hier in Duitsland) wel clean gevaren en veel tricks geland.
Johnno, Forest en Jerrie moesten nog hard werken om er te geraken maar ze slaagden er allemaal in!
Jerrie moest in de tweede ronde tegen Forest en nog twee andere gasten. Forest won, en Jerrie moest nog een paar heats varen. De grote vriendelijke reus slaagde erin om zijn andere heats te winnen en mocht ook door.
Johnno moest ook nog wat heats en na het verliezen van zijn kite tijdens een belangrijke heat slaagde hij er nog in om de heat te winnen!
Annie zit rechtstreeks in het main event, dus we zien vandaag wel gebeuren wat gebeuren zal.
Volgens mij is er echt nog nooit zo'n grote opkomst geweest op een PKRA want er waren 33 mensen die meededen aan de qualificaties!!
Het evenement is, zoals vorige jaren, een groot dorp die in het midden van het strand geplaatst is.
We begrijpen niet echt bepaald hoe die Duitsers denken, want heel het PKRA-dorp stond gisteren onder water..
Springvloed is de dooddoener.
Ik ga nu eerst ontbijten en ik hoop vanaf nu regelmatiger updates te kunnen doen.
We hebben nu een chille plaats gevonden voor onze tent, dus nachtrust is er vanaf nu ook!!

Aaron, Kevin (laaste 2 keer winnaar in Duitsland) of Youri? Wie gaat deze keer de beste zijn. Na de spannende strijd op Fuerte ventura moet het deze keer ook wel spannend worden. Zullen de heren hun vorm kunnen behouden of worden ze er al in de singles uitgekickt door opkomend talent?
Want het is vakantie in Nederland en Belgie, Duitsland is dichtbij dus misschien dringt er wel een rookie door tot het main-event en geeft deze de gevestigde orde klop
.
En gelukkig maar dat een hoop mensen vakantie hebben en Duitsland dichtbij is want onze nieuwe admin Ostendlocal gaat infiltreren in het PKRA kampement en ons alle dagen van de laatste nieuwste en roddels voorzien
De wind lijkt het nog een beetje af te wachten, maar het is de Duitse Waddenzee en de Nederlandse Waddenzee kennende moet ook dat goed komen

Day 5 - Palmolive For Men Kitesurf World Cup 2009
St. Peter-Ording, Germany, July 29 – Overcast skies hovered the competition site this morning and temperatures gradually reached a comfortable 21° Celsius. The gentle breeze that blew during the morning would eventually dictate the day’s events, reaching a maximum of only 15 knots which was below PKRA standards.
A lot of the tourists visiting the Kitesurf World Cup 2009 got a dose of sunshine while visiting the 12 km long by 2 km wide beach.
PKRA race director Olaf Van Tol announced during the 10:00 am riders meeting that the course races will be held in the morning followed by the freestyle events in the afternoon in anticipation of a more favorable wind forecast.
PKRA racers led by Kite Masters champion Bruno Sroka made their way to the starting line as kiteboarding enthusiasts cheered from the beach. Two races were completed for the day which wrapped up around 1:00 pm.
After seven races, still unbeaten Bruno Sroka (Cabrinha, FRA) extends his lead further by dominating today’s races yet again, crossing the line ahead of everyone else. He is now almost 14 points ahead of his nearest competitor, Olivier Dansin (North, FRA), who made a surprising comeback. The French rider trailed Sroka to the finish line along with North teammate Dirk Hanel in an ultimately exciting first race of the day. The two North riders were neck-and-neck in the first race, crossing the finish line at the same time. Rallying to second place overall with 18 points, Dansin managed to elevate his overall standing via a second place win in the last race of the day while Hanel dropped to third place overall as a result of a 5th place finish in the last race.
An exciting twist also unfolded in the women’s racing division as Steph Bridge (North, GBR) continues to dominate the games crossing the finish line ahead of the women in the second race of the day. Kristin Boese (Best, GER) launched a surprise attack in today’s events, redeeming herself from yesterday’s consecutive losses by finishing first in the opening race and second in the last race. Fabienne D’Ortoli (Cabrinha, FRA) finished both races in third place. As a result, Boese once again occupied the 2nd spot overall with 12.7 points while D’Ortoli dropped to number three overall with 13.7 points.
Over to the Freestyle events, the competitors have been as anxious as kids in a candy store anticipating perfect wind conditions.
Practice makes perfect proves to be true as in the case of Nobile rider Mike Blomvall (SWE) powered by his 14-meter kite. Blomvall landed a whopping 12 tricks during his heat against Naish rider Alex Pastor (ESP). Among them were several switch tricks, a switch kgb and a switch slim chance versus the 8 tricks executed by Pastor who was underpowered on a smaller kite. Power, execution and kite position were the deciding factors in winning against Pastor who had several outstanding tricks as well including a front mobe to blind and a double s-bend pass.
Johnno Scholte (Slingshot, NED) had a winning heat landing a kiteloop handle pass, flat 360 and blind judge over countryman Jerrie Van De Kop (Best) who landed several tricks including a blind judge with aerial handle pass and s-bend to blind.
Race Director Van Tol released the riders and called the day off at exactly 2:30 pm after the second heat due to diminishing wind conditions.
Tomorrow’s weather forecast looks very promising with strong, near gale force winds of 30 knots which will surely be a day full of huge and high-flying tricks.
The mandatory riders meeting is scheduled for 9:30 am with the first possible start of 10:00 am.

Lately, the wind has been about as unpredictable as a drunken bee. In the middle of all this randomness however, PKRA Race Director Olaf Van Tol manages to run a perfect event, doing what he does best – fulfilling an extremely demanding and stressful job and still managing to carry a warm, welcoming smile.
Today was no exception. Sunny blue skies prevailed throughout the day with temperatures reaching a high of 22° Celsius but the gentle breeze that was, foiled the opportunity to conduct the Freestyle event which requires stronger winds. As a result, Van Tol decided to release the Freestyle riders early to make way for the Racing events and cap the day full of excitement.
The mandatory riders meeting was held on time at 10:00 am and the racers got started at 10:45 am. PKRA’s extreme kiteboard racers flew their way across the finish line to the delight of the spectators watching from the beach. A total of three races were completed just before lunch and the competition wrapped up for the day at 12:30 pm.
Five time world champion Aaron Hadlow (Flexifoil, GBR) as well as teammate Petr Tyushkevich (Flexifoil, RUS) managed to briefly take advantage of the light breeze to practice tricks even if they were underpowered on their 12-14m kites. Mike Blomvall (Nobile, SWE) was also out on the water landing some fancy moves preparing for the Freestyle competition.
Course Racing Highlights
Once again Cabrinha-sponsored Bruno Sroka (FRA) dominated today’s games by winning all three races. Short of saying deja vu, he is again on top of the leader board with a total of 2.8 points after 5 races. In a show of racing ability, North’s Dirk Hanel (GER) wearing jersey #32, finished in second place overall with a total of 13 points, up three notches from number 5 overall in yesterday’s results. Currently tied in third place are Sami Gali (Best, ESP) – up 3 notches from number 6 and Olivier Dansin (North, FRA) whose rank was unchanged from yesterdays overall results. Both riders have a current score of 14 points.
In the women’s results, it is yet another victorious day for North power racer Steph Bridge (GBR) who finished way ahead of the rest of the ladies in today’s second and third races with a total of 2.8 points. Fabienne D’Ortoli (Cabrinha, FRA) finished in second place overall after managing to cross the line first in today’s opening games. Kristin Boese (Best, GER) dropped in 3rd place overall after 5 races with a total of 10 points after finishing third in all of today’s races.

Day 3 - Palmolive For Men Kitesurf World Cup 2009
St. Peter-Ording, Germany - A lot of the fans were out on the beach this morning in hopes of catching a glimpse of their favorite kiteboarder in action. Day 3 of the Palmolive Kitesurf World Cup in St. Peter-Ording, Germany was a very successfully day under a bright, warm and beautiful blue sky.
Today’s weather was just what the doctor ordered, lots of Vitamin D for everyone to share. The temperature reached a high of 22 degrees Celsius, with nearly cloudless skies and fluctuating winds averaging 12 knots.
Smiling, happy people surrounded the event site today and the joyous atmosphere was extremely contagious.
Organizers have made it possible for everyone wanting to shake the stress away by providing fun evenings of music and dancing with live DJ’s every night of the week.
The mandatory riders meeting was held exactly at 10:00 am as scheduled. However, the Freestyle competition, which was scheduled to start at 10:30 am was cancelled for the day by race director Olaf Van Tol because of light winds. Instead, Van Tol announced that the Racing event will be held in place of the Freestyle as racing requires less wind to run.
In effect, the Freestyle riders were released early in the day, which gave them the opportunity to catch up with old friends, share some laughs and have a little bit of stress-free fun before the continuation of the freestyle event tomorrow.
Ruben Lenten (NED, Slingshot) was yet again “On The Loose” making an appearance today at the event site in St. Peter-Ording. He warmly greeted old friends as well as eagerly excited fans.
The course racers had nearly perfect conditions today, enabling them to glide gracefully across the North Sea with much ease. The races ran smoothly with no major problems other than a disqualification due to line entanglements.
Once again, Portimao KiteMasters Racing champ Bruno Sroka (Cabrinha, FRA) powered his way through the finish line in the only race held during the day. This time wearing jersey number 3, Sroka is beating an old drum once more, commanding a well-deserved victory and is now at the top of the scoreboard. Local rider Eddy Lansild
finished in second place followed by French racer Sebastien Salerno (Gin Kites). This ties Salerno in second place overall with fellow French rider Oliver Dansin (North) with 7 points each while Lansild moved to number 3 position with 9 points.
In the women’s division, racing powerhouse Steph Bridge (North, GBR) crossed the finish line ahead of the other women putting her in lead position with 2 points overall. Kristin Boese (Best, GER) finished in second while Portimao Kitemasters race runner-up Fabienne D’Ortoli (Cabrinha, FRA) finished in third. The day’s result did not change the overall standings as Bridge still maintains top position. A total of 23 racers competed in today’s event and all managed to finished within the time limit except for James Johnsen of Denmark who was disqualified because of line entanglement.
The event was called off for the day around 3:30 pm because the wind died down to a grinding halt. Tomorrow’s forecast looks a bit more promising and hopes are still high for the Freestyle competition. The skippers meeting is set for 10:00 am with the first possible start at 10:30 am.

Day 1 - Palmolive For Men Kitesurf World Cup 2009
St. Peter-Ording, Germany, July 25 - The best kiteboard riders in the world are in Germany once again for the 4th Tour stop of the 2009 PKRA World Tour. For the fourth straight year, the Professional Kiteboard Riders Association (PKRA) is holding the competition at St. Peter-Ording - the largest beach of all PKRA Tour stops. A total of 60 men and women are participating in this event which will run until August 2 for a chance at over 50,000 Euros in prize money.
Dubbed as the “Best Organized Kiteboarding Event in the World,” the Germany event kicked off day one with the trial elimination round of the men’s division. Cloudy skies with brief rain showers prevailed during the day. The temperature was at a bearable 18° Celsius with the winds increasing at a steady pace averaging approximately 15 knots.
Day One got underway with a 9:30 am riders meeting at the beach. The 10:00 am start was delayed by about an hour due to some technical problems so a second announcement was made by Race Director Olaf Van Tol at 10:45 am declaring an 11:30 am start. There were a total of 49 men registered so 33 battled it out in the trials. Most of the riders were on their 9 to 11-meter kites
Kiteforum.com’s founder Toby Bräuer was at the scene all day for some ultimate board-off performance to the delight of the crowd. The spectators at the beach began to gather in numbers as the day wore on to cheer for their favorite riders and see who would win a spot in the highly anticipated Singles Freestyle competition.
Around 1:00 pm, the weather took a turn for the worse. Overcast skies with sections of cumulonimbus clouds hovered along the beach forming a line of severe thunderstorm with strong winds and rain soaking the competition area. An hour later, the announcer declared that due to the extremely high tides and strong onshore winds, the event site would be flooded and all vehicles parked at the designated parking areas would have to be moved as quickly as possible to avoid having a severely salt water-drenched vehicle.
At 2:20 pm, another announcement was made advising everyone that the Singles Freestyle competition is postponed for the day after the men’s trials due to the extremely high coastal tides which reached its peak at 4:30 pm.
There were mostly new Dutch and German riders in the trials which made it slightly difficult for the judges to cope with identifying who’s on the water and made sure they were judging the right competitor. Nevertheless, all went very well and each rider in the heats was identified properly and everyone was judged correctly.
While not everyone could execute them, it was apparent that riders had to be able to perform not just regular or sent handle passes, but powered handle passes to qualify for the main event. Some of the common tricks saw from the riders were blind judge, 313, blind judge with aerial handle pass, slim, mobe, kite loops, krypts, raley to blind, back to blind air pass, kiteloop with aerial handle pass and sent handle passes.
All qualifiers performed a very high level of riding but there were plenty of crashes along the way because of the onshore and gusty winds. Compared to the pre-qualified competitors who can perform and land up to 20 moves in a 7-minute heat, the qualifiers were able to do about half of that. A reminder of just how good the twelve pre-qualified riders are in different conditions.
It was also obvious that experience played a major role in today’s events, especially in positioning during the heat. In the onshore winds and sandbars on the inside, the more experienced riders started as far upwind as possible to keep out of the shallows and upwind away from the beach and shore break. On the other hand, the less-experienced or underpowered drifted close to the beach, limiting the area where they can land their tricks. They also had to fight upwind each tack before a trick which limited the variety of moves they could perform. Riders starting and staying upwind had plenty of free space to perform their moves than be kiting on the same line as their competitor and tangling or running into traffic at the bottom of the competition box near the shore.
Overall, the event went smoothly with not too many mishaps other than a couple of disqualifications due to line entanglements. During heat #12, Monty Scholz, (Naish, GER) was disqualified due to a line entanglement with another competitor. Unfortunately, he was leading the heat before the mishap. In Heat #15, Erik Volpe (Slingshot, ITA) was also disqualified due to another line entanglement with one of his opponents. In the following heat, Stephan Brenner (Catapult, AUT) lost after breaking his leash while Tom Schüller (North, GER) crashed his kite hard onshore in heat #17. Fortunately for him, a kind and eager spectator ran out into the cold North Sea to help him re-launch his kite.
The day concluded at 3:30 pm while tomorrow’s mandatory riders’ meeting is set to take place at 10:00 am with a first possible start at 10:30 am.

Day 4 - Palmolive For Men Kitesurf World Cup 2009
St. Peter-Ording, Germany, July 28 –What else can bring a tinge of sun and heat into the moderately cool and sometimes rain-soaked competition area of the German Tour stop? Three scorching races participated in by some of the best kiteboard riders in the world.
St. Peter-Ording, Germany, July 28 –What else can bring a tinge of sun and heat into the moderately cool and sometimes rain-soaked competition area of the German Tour stop? Three scorching races participated in by some of the best kiteboard riders in the world.
Lately, the wind has been about as unpredictable as a drunken bee. In the middle of all this randomness however, PKRA Race Director Olaf Van Tol manages to run a perfect event, doing what he does best – fulfilling an extremely demanding and stressful job and still managing to carry a warm, welcoming smile.
Today was no exception. Sunny blue skies prevailed throughout the day with temperatures reaching a high of 22° Celsius but the gentle breeze that was, foiled the opportunity to conduct the Freestyle event which requires stronger winds. As a result, Van Tol decided to release the Freestyle riders early to make way for the Racing events and cap the day full of excitement.
The mandatory riders meeting was held on time at 10:00 am and the racers got started at 10:45 am. PKRA’s extreme kiteboard racers flew their way across the finish line to the delight of the spectators watching from the beach. A total of three races were completed just before lunch and the competition wrapped up for the day at 12:30 pm.
Five time world champion Aaron Hadlow (Flexifoil, GBR) as well as teammate Petr Tyushkevich (Flexifoil, RUS) managed to briefly take advantage of the light breeze to practice tricks even if they were underpowered on their 12-14m kites. Mike Blomvall (Nobile, SWE) was also out on the water landing some fancy moves preparing for the Freestyle competition.
Course Racing Highlights
Once again Cabrinha-sponsored Bruno Sroka (FRA) dominated today’s games by winning all three races. Short of saying deja vu, he is again on top of the leader board with a total of 2.8 points after 5 races. In a show of racing ability, North’s Dirk Hanel (GER) wearing jersey #32, finished in second place overall with a total of 13 points, up three notches from number 5 overall in yesterday’s results. Currently tied in third place are Sami Gali (Best, ESP) – up 3 notches from number 6 and Olivier Dansin (North, FRA) whose rank was unchanged from yesterdays overall results. Both riders have a current score of 14 points.
In the women’s results, it is yet another victorious day for North power racer Steph Bridge (GBR) who finished way ahead of the rest of the ladies in today’s second and third races with a total of 2.8 points. Fabienne D’Ortoli (Cabrinha, FRA) finished in second place overall after managing to cross the line first in today’s opening games. Kristin Boese (Best, GER) dropped in 3rd place overall after 5 races with a total of 10 points after finishing third in all of today’s races.

Day 3 - Palmolive For Men Kitesurf World Cup 2009
St. Peter-Ording, Germany - A lot of the fans were out on the beach this morning in hopes of catching a glimpse of their favorite kiteboarder in action. Day 3 of the Palmolive Kitesurf World Cup in St. Peter-Ording, Germany was a very successfully day under a bright, warm and beautiful blue sky.
Today’s weather was just what the doctor ordered, lots of Vitamin D for everyone to share. The temperature reached a high of 22 degrees Celsius, with nearly cloudless skies and fluctuating winds averaging 12 knots.
Smiling, happy people surrounded the event site today and the joyous atmosphere was extremely contagious.
Organizers have made it possible for everyone wanting to shake the stress away by providing fun evenings of music and dancing with live DJ’s every night of the week.
The mandatory riders meeting was held exactly at 10:00 am as scheduled. However, the Freestyle competition, which was scheduled to start at 10:30 am was cancelled for the day by race director Olaf Van Tol because of light winds. Instead, Van Tol announced that the Racing event will be held in place of the Freestyle as racing requires less wind to run.
In effect, the Freestyle riders were released early in the day, which gave them the opportunity to catch up with old friends, share some laughs and have a little bit of stress-free fun before the continuation of the freestyle event tomorrow.
Ruben Lenten (NED, Slingshot) was yet again “On The Loose” making an appearance today at the event site in St. Peter-Ording. He warmly greeted old friends as well as eagerly excited fans.
The course racers had nearly perfect conditions today, enabling them to glide gracefully across the North Sea with much ease. The races ran smoothly with no major problems other than a disqualification due to line entanglements.
Once again, Portimao KiteMasters Racing champ Bruno Sroka (Cabrinha, FRA) powered his way through the finish line in the only race held during the day. This time wearing jersey number 3, Sroka is beating an old drum once more, commanding a well-deserved victory and is now at the top of the scoreboard. Local rider Eddy Lansild
finished in second place followed by French racer Sebastien Salerno (Gin Kites). This ties Salerno in second place overall with fellow French rider Oliver Dansin (North) with 7 points each while Lansild moved to number 3 position with 9 points.
In the women’s division, racing powerhouse Steph Bridge (North, GBR) crossed the finish line ahead of the other women putting her in lead position with 2 points overall. Kristin Boese (Best, GER) finished in second while Portimao Kitemasters race runner-up Fabienne D’Ortoli (Cabrinha, FRA) finished in third. The day’s result did not change the overall standings as Bridge still maintains top position. A total of 23 racers competed in today’s event and all managed to finished within the time limit except for James Johnsen of Denmark who was disqualified because of line entanglement.
The event was called off for the day around 3:30 pm because the wind died down to a grinding halt. Tomorrow’s forecast looks a bit more promising and hopes are still high for the Freestyle competition. The skippers meeting is set for 10:00 am with the first possible start at 10:30 am.

The sun was out most of the day and sunny blue skies prevailed throughout the morning and afternoon with temperatures peaking at 22° Celsius.
The mandatory riders’ meeting was held outside the riders’ tent area at exactly 10:00 am while the supposedly 10:30 am first possible start was delayed by half an hour due to the unpredictable winds.
Exactly 11:00 am, the red flag was raised kicking-off the men’s Single Freestyle eliminations. Race Director Olaf Van Tol then made a decision three minutes into the first heat to cancel the contest because of diminishing winds. The lack of wind made it almost impossible for the riders to stay upwind even on their 12 to 14-meter kites, much less perform any tricks.
Several minutes later, the wind showed a promising comeback so heat #1a was resumed. Sebastien Garat (RRD, FRA) had an easy win, landing a switch slim, 313 and a back mobe, defeating Spain’s Forrest Bakker (Flexifoil) who could only land a blind judge in the light winds.
Youri Zoon (Slingshot, NED) had a decent heat in the second set despite the very light winds, landing several switch tricks, blind judge with aerial handle pass, 313, back mobe, front mobe, kgb and a back mobe to wrapped. The Dutch rider defeated Thomas Paris (North, FRA) who struggled dearly in the light winds but was able to land a blind judge and a back mobe to blind.
Around 11:30 am, Van Tol decided to cancel the Freestyle competition before the third heat to move on to Speed Racing which requires less wind.
The athletes competing in the course racing competition eagerly rushed to the beach in hopes of getting out onto the water. However, the wind decided not to cooperate and completely died down so the race was called off at 2:00 pm. With the wind forecast not looking good for the rest of the day, the competition was called off and the riders were released.
The wind forecast for tomorrow does not look promising but both the competitors, organizers and sports enthusiasts are keeping their fingers crossed and their hopes in high spirits for the Singles Freestyle eliminations to push through tomorrow.

Day 1 - Palmolive For Men Kitesurf World Cup 2009
St. Peter-Ording, Germany, July 25 - The best kiteboard riders in the world are in Germany once again for the 4th Tour stop of the 2009 PKRA World Tour. For the fourth straight year, the Professional Kiteboard Riders Association (PKRA) is holding the competition at St. Peter-Ording - the largest beach of all PKRA Tour stops. A total of 60 men and women are participating in this event which will run until August 2 for a chance at over 50,000 Euros in prize money.
Dubbed as the “Best Organized Kiteboarding Event in the World,” the Germany event kicked off day one with the trial elimination round of the men’s division. Cloudy skies with brief rain showers prevailed during the day. The temperature was at a bearable 18° Celsius with the winds increasing at a steady pace averaging approximately 15 knots.
Day One got underway with a 9:30 am riders meeting at the beach. The 10:00 am start was delayed by about an hour due to some technical problems so a second announcement was made by Race Director Olaf Van Tol at 10:45 am declaring an 11:30 am start. There were a total of 49 men registered so 33 battled it out in the trials. Most of the riders were on their 9 to 11-meter kites
Kiteforum.com’s founder Toby Bräuer was at the scene all day for some ultimate board-off performance to the delight of the crowd. The spectators at the beach began to gather in numbers as the day wore on to cheer for their favorite riders and see who would win a spot in the highly anticipated Singles Freestyle competition.
Around 1:00 pm, the weather took a turn for the worse. Overcast skies with sections of cumulonimbus clouds hovered along the beach forming a line of severe thunderstorm with strong winds and rain soaking the competition area. An hour later, the announcer declared that due to the extremely high tides and strong onshore winds, the event site would be flooded and all vehicles parked at the designated parking areas would have to be moved as quickly as possible to avoid having a severely salt water-drenched vehicle.
At 2:20 pm, another announcement was made advising everyone that the Singles Freestyle competition is postponed for the day after the men’s trials due to the extremely high coastal tides which reached its peak at 4:30 pm.
There were mostly new Dutch and German riders in the trials which made it slightly difficult for the judges to cope with identifying who’s on the water and made sure they were judging the right competitor. Nevertheless, all went very well and each rider in the heats was identified properly and everyone was judged correctly.
While not everyone could execute them, it was apparent that riders had to be able to perform not just regular or sent handle passes, but powered handle passes to qualify for the main event. Some of the common tricks saw from the riders were blind judge, 313, blind judge with aerial handle pass, slim, mobe, kite loops, krypts, raley to blind, back to blind air pass, kiteloop with aerial handle pass and sent handle passes.
All qualifiers performed a very high level of riding but there were plenty of crashes along the way because of the onshore and gusty winds. Compared to the pre-qualified competitors who can perform and land up to 20 moves in a 7-minute heat, the qualifiers were able to do about half of that. A reminder of just how good the twelve pre-qualified riders are in different conditions.
It was also obvious that experience played a major role in today’s events, especially in positioning during the heat. In the onshore winds and sandbars on the inside, the more experienced riders started as far upwind as possible to keep out of the shallows and upwind away from the beach and shore break. On the other hand, the less-experienced or underpowered drifted close to the beach, limiting the area where they can land their tricks. They also had to fight upwind each tack before a trick which limited the variety of moves they could perform. Riders starting and staying upwind had plenty of free space to perform their moves than be kiting on the same line as their competitor and tangling or running into traffic at the bottom of the competition box near the shore.
Overall, the event went smoothly with not too many mishaps other than a couple of disqualifications due to line entanglements. During heat #12, Monty Scholz, (Naish, GER) was disqualified due to a line entanglement with another competitor. Unfortunately, he was leading the heat before the mishap. In Heat #15, Erik Volpe (Slingshot, ITA) was also disqualified due to another line entanglement with one of his opponents. In the following heat, Stephan Brenner (Catapult, AUT) lost after breaking his leash while Tom Schüller (North, GER) crashed his kite hard onshore in heat #17. Fortunately for him, a kind and eager spectator ran out into the cold North Sea to help him re-launch his kite.
The day concluded at 3:30 pm while tomorrow’s mandatory riders’ meeting is set to take place at 10:00 am with a first possible start at 10:30 am.

Het was gisteren één mooi grote lagoon hier. Evenement werd afgeblazen voor de rest van de dag. Je kon door het hele event heen kiten en er werd gelooped over autos en caravans. Foto's volgen vast nog.

De singles beginnen over 3 kwartier! De lijst staat propvol belgen en nederlanders, helemaal top! Gezellig sfeertje ook hier.. Die Duitsers zijn echt helemaal knetter. De wind was gister 35 knopen, en echt 100 kiters op het water (als het er niet meer waren) en iedereen deed de vetste dingen, over auto's springen, dikke kiteloops etc. Vandaag gelukkig wat beter weer, lekker zonnetje, en goede wind! De race moet nog even wachten want de freestyle is dik aan! Iedereen is zn kites aan het oppompen en Ian en ik zijn aan het loungen in de riders room, muahaha.

De heats startten daarnet met 1tegen 1 telkens.
Eerste heat Garat tegen half dutchie Forest Bakker. Na 1x gecancelled te hebben ging het uiteindelijk toch door voor een tweede poging, en Garat was net iets te sterk voor Forest in de weinige wind.
Heat twee, Youri tegen een Northrider. Youri won easy! (gek wat die dude kan in die weinige wind)
derde heat alweer gecancelled en nu gaan ze eerst racen. Eddy en Bram moeten aan het werk strax.

ja was best erg voor eddy hij stond op de tweede plaats tijdens de race, maar net als ze naar de finish gingen downwinderen werd de race afgeblazen...

Correctie van het verhaal van Ostendlocal:
Eddy was 2e in de 2e race. In de derde race stond hij 1e maar die werd gecanceld. Hij was de enigste die nog hoogte kon lopen en de boei kon ronden. De rest kon niet meer upwind komen en daarom werd de race gecanceld

en vanaf vandaag wordt Annie aangesteld om de course race te volgen en daarvan updates te geven. Mijn kennis van de course race is te klein, dus het is beter dat iemand die er wat van kent de updates doet.

net was de heat tussen alex pastor en mike blomvall en mike won het van alex..
De heat erna was die tussen jerrie en johnno. Het was een heat met weinig wind en johnno won het van jerrie.
Ik heb er wat foto's van maar daar is nu geen tijd voor.
De competitie ligt even stil omdat de wind weg is, maar vanaf de wind er is gaan ze gewoon door.

Wat een nacht was het hier ook e, tot 3u 'snachts stomme duitsers die ons wakker hielden en dan kwam een storm langs die onze tent bijna plat blaasde. Maar ik blijf wel even wakker vandaag voor de updates te doen

Tijn ligt eruit na een close heat tegen Andy Yates... We dachten allemaal dat Tijn het gehaald had want hij entertainde het publiek ook zo hard!!
Dikke crash maar toen ie boven kwam lachte hij alweer
Kevin won het easy met een paar mooie sprongen!
De heat tussen Mowgli en Ariel was niet normaal close, Mowgli was de favoriet maar had niet genoeg met een lowmobe, flat3, flat 5 en een paar megaloops.. Ik denk dat Ariel zijn frontmobe de jury deed beslissen, maar de rest van Ariel zijn heat was niet super.
Steve verloor tegen Aaron in deze niet normale condities, maar dat is ook geen schande he
Al bij al hebben onze Belgen en Nederlanders echt goed gevaren maar waren de pro riders iets te sterk voor hen.
Nu is de laatste heat bezig, maar ik werd even van het strand geblazen door het zand en de regen..
Op naar de volgende ronde waar Youri, Johnno en Kevin ons zullen vertegenwoordigen.

youri en kevin gaan nog steeds easy door. youri is nu op het water, ofwel binnen paar minuten. Ik ga direct eens kijken.
Ruben was er ook even om in de heat van Aaron en Lewis te varen. Er zaten wel mooie loops tussen, maar hadlow blijft de king met de ingehaakte loop kgb!!

Tijn en Steve werden verslaan helaas..
Tijn verloor tegen Rondina, maar die Rondina deed niet normaal veel switch dat we niet wisten welke kant zijn normale is Helemaal geen schande om te verliezen tegen hem!
Steve had een beetje een slechte heat tegen Schitzhofer, en verloor zo jammergenoeg. Hij kon hem zeker aan!!
Nu is het even aan de girls, Annie ligt er ondertussen al uit..

Day 7 - Palmolive For Men Kitesurf World Cup 2009
St. Peter-Ording, Germany, July 31 – Today marks the conclusion of the double elimination event. Someone put an order into the weather station this morning requesting moderate winds of 15 to 18 knots, sun, clouds and a temperature of 19° Celsius. That is exactly what was seen on the beach at 9:30 am this morning as the red flag went up. Most riders had their 9-meter kites ready to fly out onto the water.
Men’s Double Freestyles Highlights
The first heat of the day would be an interesting one with four riders out on the water. The judges had eyes in all directions making sure to not miss a trick.
Lewis Crathern (Slingshot, GBR) landed a railey to blind, blind judge, low mobe and FS3 defeating North rider Thomas Paris (FRA) who also landed tricks such as 313, blind judge 3, kgb-180 and front mobe but was disqualified due to a line entanglement. Crathern advanced to the second round of heats where Naish team rider Alex Pastor (ESP) eliminated him. Pastor moved on to a heat against Mike Blomvall (Nobile, SWE) defeating him due to more variety of tricks as well as powered switch tricks, which would then send him to a tough heat against Slingshot rider Andy Yates (AUS).
Yates proved that he wasn’t going down without a fight defeating Alberto Rondina (Cabrinha, ITA) as well as Cabarete Champion Ariel Corniel (Ozone, DOM) and North rider Reno Romeu (BRA) in separate heats today. Yates executed his tricks with more power and technical style. Amongst some of his tricks were a front mobe to blind, and kgb to blind. Yates would later lose his winning streak against North rider Youri Zoon (NED) in heat # 33landing him fourth place in today’s competition.
It was a big day for North Rider Youri Zoon (NED) who defeated five time world champion Aaron Hadlow (Flexifoil, GBR) in a 4-1 decision. Zoon made an overall impression on the judges as he executed each trick with great style, power and most importantly kite positioning. Zoon forged his way into the finals against fellow Dutchman and yesterdays first place single freestyle winner Kevin Langeree (Naish, NED). It would be a final 5-0 decision in favor of Langeree due to better execution of tricks and variety. Some of the most outstanding tricks executed by Langeree was a one-handed kgb grab, front mobe to blind, and a blind judge with aerial handle pass.

The women were a little anxious to state their claim to fame as they spurted out onto the water today. In the first women’s heat, Jo Wilson (Naish, GBR) defeated Erika Lindberg (Flexifoil, SWE) in a 3-0 judges decision. Wilson moved on to the next round and defeated Johara Sykes-Davis (Flexifoil, GBR) due to more power and better execution of tricks as well Best rider Kristin Boese (GER). Wilson was later eliminated by North rider Angela Peral (ESO) in heat #16 landing a railey to blind, back roll to wrapped and a powered blind judge.
More women’s action was about to take place as Flexifoil rider Bruna Kajiya (BRA) defeated Naish rider Karolina Winkowska (POL) landing more difficult tricks and a higher variety of moves. Kajiya would have to prove her abilities in the last and final women’s heat of the day against yesterday’s single freestyle winner Joanna Litwin (Nobile, POL). It was a very entertaining heat as the women went neck-and-neck performing with much class and style. Litwin took her spot at the podium yet again defeating Kajiya with more power and better execution of tricks.
Today’s events wrapped up at 5:30 pm while tomorrow’s mandatory rider’s meeting is scheduled for 10:00 am.

ja Youri greep ff naar zijn knie, maar 't was niet te erg dacht ik. Na vijf minuten ging het al weer een stuk beter. Hopelijk blijft zijn knietje sterk!!

K ben inderdaad 5e geworden bij de course race op een twintip raceboard prototype. Erg lache om te zien dat ik met mn twintip alsnog erg goed mee kon komen met de pro's op directionals.
